Established in 1992 as a fun way for residents to get healthy food Mince Manor Gardens consist of a combination and community gardens. The Mince Manor garden was developed for a yard space and raises enough food for the 15 resident grower and to share with other residents in the complex. The garden helps to engage residents in beautifying their space, feed themselves, and share with their neighbors, the affect has been an increased sense of community around the garden. The garden grows tomatoes, collards, cabbage, okra, green beans, peppers, onions and squash. The garden has proved to be so popular there is now a waiting list to get one of the garden plots and it has inspired an ongoing contest between different Flint Housing Commission sites.
The future is to continue to create a fun way for residents to get healthy foods.
