Edible Flint formed first as a network following a number of community conversations around healthy food access and community vitality after years of economic decline. Involved in these conversations were community members and organizations interested in collaborating on healthy food access, productive reuse of vacant land, economic opportunities and education around local food systems. Edible Flint is now a non-profit organization working together with individuals and institutional partners to support community residents in growing and accessing healthy food in order to reconnect with the land and each other.
Edible Flint now has four community work groups and a Leadership Board that are responsible for carrying out the work of the organization by addressing specific issues and opportunities in our local food system. |
The Garden Starters Program offers gardening resources that help residents get started growing. The garden kit includes a variety of plants and seeds that are designed to feed a family throughout the summer. Kits go on sale in April and are picked up at Distribution Day on May 17th.
